Although it is expected that the university will resume classes on Monday, July 20, the coordination of the Meeting has decided to suspend it in order to resolve the uncertainty, with the lowest cost possible to the exhibitors and participants, respecting their economic and personal efforts to attend the event each year.
The measure covers all activities that were planned on the week of Monday 27 to Friday 31 Jul 2009. The cancellation also affects: the ‘I Congreso Latinoamericano de Enseñanza del Diseño’, the presentations of the guests of honor and all the conferences and workshops of the ‘Encuentro’.
The activities that will run normally are: the exhibition ‘The new latin chair’ (MARQ Museum, from July 7 to August 7), the exhibition ‘3 años de Afiches de América Latina’ (Centro Cultural Borges, from July 30 to August 15), the map of the design areas called ”El mejor diseño está en Palermo’ and the five categories of the 2009 competition (Posters, Fashion, Sofa, Branding and Ensaios) will remain with their pre-determined timetable.
The IV Meeting will be virtual through the website and will happen through the months of August and September this year. Among the things that will be loaded to the website are the content of the activities, the selected works for the competitions which should be voted by the Meeting participants for the ‘Public Award’, image galleries and other materials that complement existing studies on the Design Network, the ‘I Congreso Latinoamericano de Enseñanza del Diseño’ and ‘The best design is in Palermo’ map, that are already online.
We decided this with sadness and difficulty, recognizing and accepting the limits of our unpredictable reality.
The ‘Encuentro Latinoamericano de Diseño’ Coordination sends a big hug to all participants and informs that the ‘V Encuentro’ will be held from 27 to 30 July 2010.”
If you’re one of them, and your bags were already packed, or if you were lucky and haven’t bought your tickets yet despite having made your entry, I would like to know your opinion: Is the swine flu a good reason for the cancellation of this event? What do you think of the “virtual mode” to replace the lectures and workshops? Comment!
