The Festival de Tango y Mundial de Baile 2009 (2009 Tango Festival and Dance World Cup) have been happening in Buenos Aires from August 14 to 31. There is a great lineup of shows and activities, grouped in 10 different locations, all of them are free. On the days 15 and 17 we were in Harrods, in Calle Florida, witnessing some of the events that are open to the public without the requirement of tickets, which are necessary for some shows and must be obtained beforehand.

Tango shoes.
Like a déjà vu of last year, Harrods is adorned with posters and magenta (or pink) colored walls for the Festival. Inside, several shops where you can find everything related to tango, from self-made shoes and clothes, DVDs, CDs, books, etc., as well as brave and lively people learning tango steps.

Exhibitions and products fair inside Harrods.
At the auditorium, we watched a documentary film called “Tango Salón, Confiteria La Ideal” by Jana Bokova. It shows the interviews of several people who are passioned about tango. It is interesting as a big part of the Argentineans, from taxi drivers to lawyers, consider this dance a way to make life more joyful, to escape from the problems of the day-to-day life and to socialize and meet other people with this same interest.

Milonga with live music.
Among the concerts we saw, there was one with the Bandoneonazo group, composed of six young bandoneon players born between the years 1985-1990. We also saw the concert of the Orquesta Leopoldo Federico. Better than tell is to watch a video of the concert:
